UPDATE! Erika and Robert showed their horses under saddle at the 2011 Garfield County fair. This is their third year with the horses and they are doing a great job. Erika who is now 14 years old, won a blue ribbon and took Reserve Grand in the class of three year olds. Congratulations! Erika! Robert, who is also 14 years old now, earned a blue ribbon. Congratulations! Robert! Robert says his gelding is s “cow eating son-of-a-gun”. We are really proud of both these fine young people and the dedication they have shown to the training of their S-Heart horses.
The following is the story of these young people and their horses:
As a way to encourage those who are interested in the 4-H Horse Program in our county in Montana, we at S Heart Performance Horses awarded two weanlings to deserving young people in the fall of 2008. A King Fritz/Sugar Bars bred colt found a new home with 10 yr old Robert Bliss and the King Fritz/Sr Doctor Tari bred filly is residing with 10 yr old Erika Cremer.
The requirements that were set for the award by the 4-H leadership and S Heart Horses involved applicants submitting a letter containing a plan of care, i.e., feeding, training, etc. and the applicant’s long term goals for the colt. It was understood that the recipients must complete at least one year in the 4-H Horse Program before they would be entitled to the registration papers. We are happy to report that the yearlings were both shown and won blue ribbons at our county fair. Robert and Erika will be receiving their colt’s registrations soon!
In a county where horses are used on a daily basis in the agriculture industry, it stands to reason that we have an excellent 4-H Horse Program. Some of the projects are: Horsemanship, Showmanship, Colt To Maturity and Packing. The leadership in the clubs is excellent—-involving women and men who are interested in promoting horses not only as recreation, but as a way of life. The ranchers in our county know the value of a good horse. The young people start to ride at an early age and learn to respect the importance of their equine partner.
We congratulate Erika and Robert for a job well done and we want to share this success story with all who might read it. Erika and Robert, we will see you next year at the fair with your 2 year old colts!
UPDATE!!!! Erika and Robert brought their colts to the Garfield County Fair in 2010 and they were mounted and doing a great job. They have both developed a real good working relationship with their horses and we are looking foreword to seeing them next year!
