Marketing horses is time consuming and challenging. If you raise and sell or train and sell even a few every year, you know that. If you have good horses to sell, you care that they find the right home. That takes more time and more work.
Why do we call ourselves Horses of the West? Because we advertise horses for sale and horse breeders from the western United States and Canada. As long-time breeders in the area, we think western horses deserve to be showcased.
Our advertisers’ geographical area
Our advertiser area is the western US and Canada. Basically, if you are in a western state in the US or province in Canada, we’d love to have you advertise your horse for sale, your horse breeding ranch, or your horse trainer services on Horses of the West. We are including the Canadian provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia.
The map below shows in blue the states in the United States that we serve.

Although we are not restricting the breeds that can be advertised here, it’s pretty obvious that this is a great place to advertise ranch horses, rope horses, barrel horses and other western horses. You will find some excellent, ranch-raised English prospects here too. However, you will find sites that are more specialized to advertise a ready-to-show Grand Prix Jumper. That does not mean you won’t find versatile horses here with a variety of potential. It does mean we aren’t trying to be all things to all horse buyers or sellers. If you want to buy or sell a western horse from the western US or Canada, we want to be your go-to site.
Advertising opportunities for you
We offer great horse advertising opportunities.
First, we offer horse for sale ads for breeders, trainers, and other horse people. If you have a horse you raised or have owned a while, we want to help you sell that horse!
Each horse ad is approved by a real human who knows the horse industry – and can provide you the personal assistance you might need to maximize the value of your ad. We don’t approve ads from rescues and traders. Certainly there are lots of great folks in those businesses but that’s not the kind of horse we are focused on – we are here to help breeders and long-term owners showcase horses they know well.
We are working on adding stallions at stud ads too. Right now the process is still in beta and you’ll need to contact Kristin our website builder to get it finished but we’ll happily get your stallion ads up since we know breeding season will be here soon.
And last – but most exciting – we’ll be offering a specialized website service for horse operations who need a professional internet presence but don’t have the time or budget to hire a custom development company with a four figure retainer. Our service will have a very specific niche – horse industry participants who need a professional-looking, affordable, efficient way to maintain their own websites. Please contact us for more information.

In general, we are planning articles around the topics we know – about raising horses and ranching in the western United States. We’ll talk about ideas ranging from business topics like accounting, budgeting, and planning the myriad of adventures involved in raising horses in our part of the world. Since our site is meant to help you sell your horses, of course a lot of our articles will be about marketing your horses.
