We have lots of great plans at Horses of the West. It’s time to let you all in on the general outline of where we are going.
Expanded geographical area
In the past, we accepted advertising only from the states of Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming. We decided to expand that a great deal.
Our advertiser area is now the western US and Canada. Basically, if you are in a western state in the US or province in Canada, we’d love to have you advertise your horse for sale, your horse breeding ranch, or your horse trainer services on Horses of the West. We are including the Canadian provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia.
The map below shows in blue the states in the United States that we serve. This expansion is a big change and we’ll be working on updating the many sitewide references to our former, smaller geographic region but it will take us a while. (Hey, if you see a page we need to update, drop us a note, we might have missed it!)
Although we are not restricting the breeds that can be advertised here, it’s pretty obvious that this is a great place to advertise ranch horses, rope horses, barrel horses and other western horses. It’s probably not the best use of your advertising dollar to advertise a Grand Prix Jumper here. That does not mean you won’t find versatile horses here with a variety of potential. It does mean we aren’t trying to be all things to all horse buyers or sellers. If you want to buy or sell a western horse from the western US or Canada, we want to be your go-to site.
Expanded advertising opportunities for you
In addition to expanding our geographical reach, we are planning to introduce some great new advertising opportunities.
First, we’ll be rolling out the beta version of our new online form to add your own horses for sale in the next few weeks. Each horse ad will still be approved by a real human who knows the horse industry – and can provide you the personal assistance you might need to maximize the value of your ad.
We’ll be adding stallion at stud ads next – in time for breeding season.
And last – but most exciting – we’ll be offering a specialized website service for horse operations who need a professional internet presence but don’t have the time or budget to hire a custom development company with a five figure retainer. Our service will have a very specific niche – horse industry participants who need a professional-looking, affordable, efficient way to maintain their own websites. Please contact us for more information.
Regular articles about horse marketing, horse business management, and more
While this is certainly easier said than done, we have a lot of ideas for articles coming up. We plan to steadily grow the articles section of this site. Have an idea for an article you’d like to see? Let us know in the comments or in an email. Better yet, do you have an article you’d like to write? If it would fit into our themes and editorial guidelines here, we’d love to talk to you about your idea and how it might fit in here at Horses of the West.
In general, we are planning articles around the topics we know – about raising horses and ranching in the western United States. We’ll talk about ideas ranging from business topics like accounting, budgeting, and planning the myriad of adventures involved in raising horses in our part of the world. Since our site is meant to help you sell your horses, of course a lot of our articles will be about marketing your horses.
You’ll also notice that we have opened up comments on our articles – starting with this one. Have an idea for an article topic? Let us know in the comments.
