The county fair in Glendive, Montana will once again host the Dawson County Fair Open Horse Show. This enjoyable show starts at 8 am on August 7, 2013 with halter classes followed by some of the crowd favorite classes – Leadline for riders age six and under and several walk-trot classes for those under age nine. After a (usually late-morning) lunch break the classes resume in front of the grandstands in the rodeo arena. Classes include horse show staples like western pleasure, reining, and games as well as less-common classes like team driving. Everyone with a horse should find something they can participant in and entrants are welcome regardless of their home county or state.
Back by popular demand is judge Tara Swanson from Fargo, ND. Ms. Swanson is an experienced horse woman, judge, and Equine Studies faculty member at North Dakota State University. We are proud to continue our tradition of bringing extraordinary judges to the Dawson County Fair Open Horse Show! For more information about Ms. Swanson and the NDSU Equine Studies program:

Please print this form out, fill it in and mail it with your entry fees to the address on the form. Early entries avoid a $1/class post-entry charge plus are entered in a drawing for $20 cash held at the show. Who wouldn’t like a chance at $20 cash?
Previous year attendees will notice a change in the order of the games classes at the end of the day. Barrel racing will now be the last event of the day.
Awards will be given to High Point horse and rider combinations in each age division: 14 and under and 15 and older. In addition, the high point among 4H members receives an award as does the high point competitor in the Jack Benny classes for those age 39 and older.
Every year we see an increase in spectators and we encourage area residents to come out to enjoy a day watching kids and horses competing in a variety of classes. Most people find the morning classes held on the grass ring just as you enter the grounds enchanting. Nice, new, covered seating is available near both rings. Please, come out and enjoy!
