Skip to the Horse for Sale input form if you want to get started. If you want more information, please read on.
Individual horse for sale ads can be placed here for any horse within the Horses of the West geographic region – that is any horse in the western United States or the western provinces of Canada. The colored states below and the Canadian provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia all qualify.
Ads are $25 per horse – one horse per ad.
The ad will run until the horse sells or you want us to take it off. All we ask is that every six months you let us know that you want to continue the horse’s ad. There’s no additional cost involved in running it until the horse sells. We just need to know we should leave it up.
Introductory Volume Discount: If you purchase and pay for a package of horses for sale ads we’ll give you a significant discount! You’ll have a full year to place the ads.
- 5 Horse for Sale ads for $95, or
- 10 Horse for Sale ads for $150
Submitting your horse for sale ad
Go to our Horse for Sale input form. You’ll have to prove you are a human by typing in the password “horse” with no capitals and no quote marks. When you do that and click the submit button, you’ll be taken to the horse for sale input form.
Fill out the form with your horse’s information and upload photos. Always use your best photo for the featured photo. Remember that we allow and actually encourage 5 pictures per horse without an extra charge. Most potential buyers want to see photos from either side, front legs, and back legs. Use the fifth slot for a head shot or a performance photo or an offspring photo.
If you have trouble and the form inputs before you are finished or you submit and realize you should have added more, just enter the same horse again. We want to make sure our horse ads look great before we show them to the world, so all ads are approved by a real, live human who knows horses. We can just delete the mistakes.

Our commitment to our visitors
HotW respects our visitors and their time. We are breeders ourselves so we shop for horses too. Like you, we appreciate ads with well-written text and good quality photos. Looking through ads like that makes it easier and faster to find what you want. We promise not to waste your time here. We will screen ads before they post to ensure they are ready for you, our visitors.
How do we accomplish this? We need the help of our advertisers to make this possible!
Great pictures sell horses
First, we need great pictures. GOOD pictures sell horses and poor pictures discourage buyers from looking at the best of horses. Please read Sandy Wilson’s photography article.
Selling a horse over the internet requires a different type of marketing. Instead of the potential buyer having the opportunity to examine the horse in the flesh, he or she must, at least initially, depend on photos or video to evaluate your horse.
If possible, please take 5 pictures of each horse: left side, right side, face, and then straight on the front legs and back legs. Please email these photos in .jpg format to firstname.lastname@example.org and we can resize them for you. If you can’t get good photos of all those angles, send us the good photos you do have now and send the rest later if you can.
Great video is also a huge asset to selling a good horse. We can include your YouTube video as an embedded video link if you send us the link to the video.
Clear, concise text draws and retains buyer interest
Second, we need great text. Take the time to completely describe your horse, your horse’s pedigree highlights, and the description of the ideal new owner for your horse. Please do not write your text in all capital letters.
Complete ads get inquiries
Last, fill out all of the information possible. Complete ads are more helpful to your prospective buyers. If your horse is registered, please take the time to completely fill out the pedigree. This site represents the horse industry of our area to the world. We want to work with you to make a great ad and market these horses in the best manner.
What we do next
It will take us couple of days to edit your photos for the web and to approve your ad. During this time we may email you with possible suggestions, corrections, or photo approvals. Buyers are attracted to well-written ads and we’ll try to help you with that. If your ad needs some work, we will let you know what it needs within the same few days. Your PayPal payment will not be accepted or your check cashed until your ad is posted.
All our advertisers will benefit from visitors who look to Horsesofthewest.com as a pleasant and satisfying experience. The better all of our ads are, the more likely potential buyers will be to return to our site. For that reason, we may ask you to edit the text of your ad or supply missing information about your horse. We may leave some pictures off if we don’t feel they positively contribute to your horse’s ad or our site in general.
The owners of this site reserve the right to refuse to publish any ad for any reason. If the ad has inappropriate content, you can count on it not being published.
Be sure to contact us if you have any problems. We are here to help. After all, that is what Horses of the West is all about – helping you sell horses!
